Named “A Mata”, the residential project is an intimate destination on 16,369.21 square meters of forest, on one of the rarest properties in Trancoso. Close to the main guesthouses and restaurants of Praia dos Nativos, the villas sit within the natural landscape rather than on top of it.
Drawing on the coastal way of living in Trancoso — an intact jewel of the Brazilian coast — the architect Guilherme Torrês brings contemporary architecture and interiors that speak to the plain good taste of local life. The villas were designed as an extension of the outdoors, wrapped in Alex Hanazaki's landscape design, and the result is private and quietly enigmatic.

The rarest of A Mata
Phase II holds the rarest part of A Mata: six villas and four cabins with a cinematic view over the forest and the sea of Trancoso.
Their position on the highest ground of the site brings contemporary architecture and nature together in a way that is particular to this place, and gives more privacy and seclusion.
There are two villas with seven en-suites, four villas with five en-suites and four cabins with two en-suites, each independent from the others but conceived to be used together. A pavilion with further en-suites and a service kitchen extends what the villas can hold, joining authorial architecture and Brazilian design.

The project

The architecture takes its cue from local culture and local ways of living, and shows it in the choice of materials: wood on the eaves and window frames, on the floors and on the secondary cladding of the façade. The intent is to bring the landscape into the house.
The landscape design by Alex Hanazaki completes A Mata. It belongs to the place, and still brings something new to it.
In this corner of A Mata there is privacy and comfort, made for the best of living in Trancoso.
