Named “A Mata”, the residential project is an intimate destination on 16,369.21 square meters of native forest, on one of the most exclusive properties in Trancoso. Close to the main guesthouses and restaurants of Praia dos Nativos, the villas sit within the natural landscape rather than on top of it.
Drawing on the coastal way of living in Trancoso — an intact jewel of the Brazilian coast — the architect Guilherme Torrês brings contemporary architecture and interiors that speak to the plain good taste of local life. The villas were designed as an extension of the outdoors, wrapped in Alex Hanazaki's landscape design, and the result is private and quietly enigmatic.

The project
The project celebrates the carpenters and craftspeople of a region known for its handwork, pairing wood with micro-pigmented cement. The combination brings Brazilian architecture into step with the way people live in Trancoso, and makes for a slower kind of stay — one that gives a sense of belonging.
Laid out over two floors, the villas open onto the outdoors in different ways, giving three distinct levels of living: intimate, reserved and social.
A Mata sets out to redefine what a summer house can be on this stretch of the Brazilian coast, joining authorial architecture and landscape design to local building expertise.
